Mandy worked at Brenau as a Special Events work-study student. Her Boss/Sorority Sister informed her of an internship position at Georgia Tech Conference Services. She interviewed and got the job!
Conner was looking for a summer job that would allow him to live on Georgia Tech’s campus. He saw a flyer in the student center for a job at Conference Services and he was hired!
Day 1 of Orientation brought Mandy and Conner to the same place at the same time. Little did either know that 3 years later they would be engaged. The summer progressed with Mandy and Conner casually hanging out (or so Mandy thought). Conner would invite Mandy to group outings and always find a way to ride in her car or to sit next to her at dinner. Conner even began watching the show Greek so that he had an excuse to spend every Monday night with Mandy. Finally, Mandy realized that this cute guy was into her and decided to be more intentional with their outings. Mandy invited Conner over to her apartment frequently to make cookies and watch movies. The relationship progressed as the opportunity arose for Mandy and Conner to go on a “first date”. They went to extreme measures to ensure that they would be the only two on a movie date night and ended up walking two miles to Atlantic Station. At the end of Summer, Mandy and Conner made their new found interest in one another “official”. Things became interesting at this point, since the relationship was now not as convenient as being 178 steps away from each other. Now they were 45 minutes away from each other in different cities and at different schools.
The next three years were spent driving up and down I-85 to get from Georgia Tech to Brenau. Summers were still spent at Georgia Tech as Mandy continued her internship with Georgia Tech and Conner became a manager but later took an internship in the Atlanta area. Their love continued to blossom which led to the ultimate commitment of love…
How Conner Proposed:
Conner and Mandy planned a nice, relaxing trip to Savannah to wrap up the summer conference season and celebrate another year together – little did Mandy know that this would be the beginning of a very special step in their relationship. Weeks before the trip, Conner planned the whole proposal. He discussed it with Katie, asked Mandy’s father’s permission (in the parking lot at Malibu Grand Prix!), and went ring shopping with his Mom. Finally the weekend had come and they left for Savannah with Mandy oblivious to what was to come.
The first night was spent just soaking up all that Savannah had to offer: delicious restaurants, beautiful sunsets, and the lively atmosphere that the city is renowned for. On Saturday morning, Mandy woke up and was expecting a trip to the Tybee Island
Lighthouse and a fun photo shoot at the top. When they arrived, Conner grabbed his backpack containing the ring and started towards the building…only to find a sign that said “No Backpacks – No Exceptions”. After doing all that he could to get it inside, he resigned to the fact that he would have to leave it. Conner took it back to the car, grabbed the ring out of it, and they started their way up the 178 steps to the top. For a few minutes, they took in the sights before Conner gave the camera to a man to snap a quick picture. Nothing unusual, right? This is what Mandy thought until Conner asked the man to keep taking pictures for him. A couple of minutes, many tears, and one kneeling question later – Conner and Mandy were engaged!
